Meet Dr. Corbie

Giselle Corbie-Smith, MD, MSc, is internationally recognized as a thought leader and scholar on leadership and health equity. With over 160 publications, Dr. Corbie-Smith is a pioneer who has built the foundational evidence on engagement to advance equity. She has led local, state and national research and policy efforts to advance health equity. A talented convener of collaborative, cross-sector teams and a highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Corbie-Smith leads programs to help leaders and teams achieve the transformational structural change needed to advance equity.

In 2018, she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine for her ground-breaking contributions toward achieving community and population health equity. She has served in numerous state and national advisory committees, is a past President of the Society of General Internal Medicine and currently serves on the NC Governor’s Andrea Harris Social, Economic and Health Equity Task Force. Dr. Corbie-Smith completed a BA at Cornell University, earned her MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and MSc in clinical epidemiology from Emory University. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Yale University and is currently a Kenan Distinguished Professor and Associate Provost at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
